MASTERING THE ART OF NAIL DRILL SELECTION: 6 ESSINTIAL TIPS
As a must-have for manicure or pedicure, the best nail drills are nail technicians’ best buddies. It is a manicuring device that is made with a handpiece and replaceable bits.
• Nail drill bits come in a variety of materials, shapes, sizes, and grits, with different uses and purposes for each kind;
• High-quality bits can do more than just shaving off some layers on your client’s nails;
• Having the right bit for the job will make your life so much easier and will save you some valuable time when working on a client;
• Using a good nail drill allows one to create a perfect manicure comfortably and efficiently once the rotating bits are gently applied to the nails, including the sidewalls and cuticles.
We usually choose nail drills per the below checklist:
-
1. ROTATIONAL SPEED
RPM stands for rotations per minute, which determines the maximum speed at which your nail drill can go up to. Anywhere between 30,000 to 35,000 is considered incredibly high and most of the time you won't be operating at your nail drill's maximum speed.
If you plan to use the nail drill device mainly on natural nails, a model that goes up to 15,000 RPM is usually sufficient.
However, if you plan to use it for acrylic nails or both natural and acrylic nails, opt for a drill that can handle at least 25,000 RPM. -
2. POWER
It has nothing to do with rotation speed. It is usually shown on electric file or come together with technical documents. It is measured in Volts (not input power!) and should be more than 30 V. If you will see that some electric file drill is 15 or 20 V it simply won’t be able to take off product properly.
-
3. LIGHWEIGHT HANDPIECE
If it’s too heavy you won’t be able to work fast and it won’t feel comfortable.
Hands and wrists will hurt after a long working day with such a handpiece. -
4. LOW NOISE, LOW VIBRATION, LOW HEAT
Noise level, Vibration level, and Heat level
Those factors will not only affect the use of feeling but also affect the accuracy of your work and the electric nail drills’ lifetime -
5. FORWARD / REVERSE MODE
For manicures and refills, you will need to work forward and reverse. It allows you to work in different directions without holding your or the client’s hand in a twisted position.
-
6. STANDART 3/32 BITS
Very important part. You will need plenty of different bits to work with. It’s extremely hard to find a good ones of a «non-standard» size.
